History & people
A domaine in context
The Bourgeois family says it has grown vines in Chavignol since 1696. The Guide Hachette dates Domaine Henri Bourgeois itself to 1950, when Henri Bourgeois started out with 1.5 hectares, and the family's Clos Henri website records his sons Jean-Marie and Rémi joining in the 1960s.
The guide names Arnaud, Jean-Christophe and Lionel Bourgeois as the current generation, working 72 hectares in about 120 parcels. It also records a gravity-fed cellar opened in 2000 and the family's New Zealand estate, Clos Henri, developed since 2002. The domaine says its organic certification took effect with the 2023 vintage, and it sells single-parcel wines such as Les Côtes aux Valets.
