History & people

A domaine in context

01

The domaine says Claude Thomas started out in the early 1950s with a few hectares in Chavignol. His daughter Florence and her husband Jean-Paul Labaille took over in 1994, adding vines from Jean-Paul's family in Sury-en-Vaux. The importer Louis/Dressner says Jean-Paul left a civil-service job to farm full time.

Since 2010 the domaine has worked from new premises on the Route de Chavignol, and it now farms 11 hectares. Winedoctor reports that Jean-Paul has a hectare on Les Monts Damnés, and Louis/Dressner says his Cuvée Buster, first made in 1997, comes from a single barrel from his best old-vine parcel on that slope.
