History & people
A domaine in context
Domaine Claude Riffault is based in the hamlet of Maison Sallé in Sury-en-Vaux, where the Guide Hachette's 2003 edition described the Riffaults as settled for several generations. The guide's 2008 edition records that Stéphane Riffault took over the vineyard and the winemaking from his father, Claude, in 2002.
The estate's website is signed by Bénédicte and Stéphane. An Ecocert certificate dated 2020 lists the white Sancerre as organic from the 2016 vintage and the red from 2018, and Biodyvin records the domaine as a member since 2018. The importer European Cellars says Stéphane works 13.5 hectares in 33 parcels.
