History & people
A domaine in context
The importer Polaner Selections cites land records from 1380 that name a Jean Boulay as a vineyard owner in Chavignol, and the domaine's village Sancerre label reads “vignerons de père en fils depuis 1380”. Gérard Boulay runs the domaine today.
His importers say he planted the estate's youngest vines in 1972, began farming Les Monts Damnés in 1982 and has worked organically since 1990; the BIVC listing shows the HVE environmental label rather than an organic one. He first rented the Comtesse parcel in 2004 and released its wine from the 2005 vintage, and La Côte, from his parcel in La Grande Côte, followed in 2010.
