History & people
A domaine in context
Domaine Lucien Crochet is on the church square in Bué. The domaine says both of Gilles Crochet's grandfathers, André Crochet and Lucien Picard, were growers, and that Picard was one of the first in the Sancerrois to bottle wine for sale in Paris, in the early 1950s. Gilles's father, Lucien Crochet, brought the two family estates together.
Gilles left in 1978 to study oenology in Dijon and came back to Bué in 1983. He died in 2023. Laurence Crochet now runs the domaine with Clément, its technical director, across 35 hectares that include 5 hectares of Le Chêne Marchand. The domaine claims no organic certification but says it has used organic soil amendments since 1989.
