History & people
A domaine in context
Pascal Cotat's domaine grew out of the family estate in Chavignol. His father Francis and uncle Paul had been adopted by their uncle Ferdinand, a Chavignol grower, and made their first vintage with him in 1947. When the brothers retired, Pascal and his cousin François divided the vineyards in 1998: Pascal took parcels in Les Monts Damnés and La Grande Côte, and the small Culs de Beaujeu parcel stayed with François.
Pascal made and bottled his first wines from the 1999 vintage and works from a cellar in Sancerre, on the Chemin des Grous according to the BIVC. According to his US importer, North Berkeley Imports, the domaine is now led by his longtime vineyard manager Benoit Fleuriet and Benoit's son Aymeric, with Pascal helping through the transition. We found no French or press source that confirms the change.
